Handwoven cotton Jamdani dupattas from Bengal
Jamdani is among the most demanding weaves in the world. The motifs are not printed or embroidered — the weaver adds each one by hand as the cloth is being woven, floating supplementary thread across the ground weave, working without a mechanical pattern.
The dupattas here are woven in cotton, which gives Jamdani its characteristic featherlight, faintly translucent handle. They are the easiest possible way to wear a serious craft in ordinary weather.
Because these are woven by hand, slight irregularities in the weave and small colour shifts between pieces are normal. They are the signature of a handloom, not a flaw.
